I have enjoyed working with clay and painting since childhood, continuing through high school ceramics classes. Thirty years ago I was privledged to take private instruction from a Master Potter in my home town of Spring Texas. Learning to throw on the pottery wheel, using glazes and a wide range of handbuilding techniques, I fell in love with all things clay, creating pieces that are functional, beautiful and in some cases both. The learning journey is as limitless as the many ways there are to create with clay.
Background
Proud Mother of 4 and Grandmother of 7, I started painting just before turning 50, when I discovered acrylics. I dabbled with oil paints over the years and have been a studio potter for more than 30 years. Working in corporate America I had the opportunity to travel for business and pleasure and began painting scenes from those trips as personal memories. With encouragement from family and friends and early retirement, I am traveling, painting and creating pottery full time. During retirement my focus has turned to pottery.
Why Pottery?
There is something almost magic about using the four elements of nature, earth, air, water and fire, to permanently transform clay dug from the earth into something tangible you can hold in your hand.
Pottery is art that provides instant gratification as a a chunk of earth is transformed into something tangible in it's wet form, followed by a series of steps that can destroy your project in an instant
